Internship Details:
Do you want to learn organic vegetable and regenerative livestock production while potentially starting your own farm enterprise?
Our family has a 50-acre farm with a studio-style cabin (~750 ft2) in Saxapahaw, NC. We are seeking an individual or couple that wants to learn vegetable and livestock production at a nearby farm (see below) while living in the cabin in Saxapahaw. The intern would have the opportunity to lease the farm in Saxapahaw to begin their own enterprise based on their application/experience/performance during the internship.
The applicant would work part-time (10 hrs/week) with Liz Parker at Persimmon Ridge Farm in Silk Hope (about 20 min from Saxapahaw) in exchange for housing in the Saxapahaw cabin. Persimmon Ridge Farm grows non-certified organic cool-season vegetables and grass-fed, rotationally-grazed beef and lamb that we sell at a farmers market each week. Liz is excited to share her knowledge she’s gained over 15 years of farming, spanning from internships at successful area farms, to her own market garden and CSA, to now a family homestead with a market-garden twist.
Internship timing is flexible, beginning as early as September 2026 or as late as February 2027. The internship would last through June 2027, ideally transitioning to a more permanent arrangement.
Educational Opportunities: Liz is excited to share her knowledge she's gained over 15 years of farming, spanning from internships at successful area farms, to her own market garden and CSA, to now a family homestead with a market-garden twist. There are many small farms in the area Liz can connect you to for learning opportunities! There is also a community college with a sustainable ag degree program 20 minutes away in Pittsboro!
Skills Desired: The intern must be capable of physical labor in hot and cold conditions. Interest in learning is as valuable as skill level.
Meals: No. Vegetables will be provided when available.
Stipend: Internship hours cover the cost of housing (10 hours per week of farm labor). Additional hourly income on the farm or Saxapahaw property may be available.
Housing: Yes.
Preferred method of Contact: phone or email
