Resilient Communities

Throughout our 50-year history, we’ve been helping communities rebound from disaster, address environmental challenges, prepare for the future, and provide for their own energy, food, and housing needs.

We involve everyone from schoolchildren to senior citizens in creating resilient communities through projects that improve household and community energy efficiency, recycle electronic waste, and build strong local food systems and economies. By addressing the needs of low-income people in particular, we have a long history of helping everyone share in the benefits of a community built to weather all kinds of storms.

Our Initiatives

Latinos in Agriculture
Culturally relevant programming enables us to reach all land stewards.
Local Food Systems
Resilient communities have robust local food systems, with local businesses and institutions supporting local farmers and ranchers.
Urban Agriculture
Growing food in urban areas has many positive impacts on neighborhoods and helps strengthen local economies.
Women in Agriculture
We work with women to overcome barriers that prevent them from succeeding in farming and ranching.
Electronics Recycling Annual Event
At our headquarters in Butte, Montana, we host an annual e-waste collection event for the region to keep these valuable resources out of the landfill..

Service Leadership

For decades, we've cooperated with AmeriCorps to help local initiatives in communities across the country find the talented and inspired people they need to reach the people they serve.

We've coordinated projects that helped kids learn about growing food and aided senior citizens in cutting energy bills.

From the Farmers

So cool that the whole thing was in Spanish. I loved that there was no formal interpretation. It really felt like a space where the Latino farming community could feel comfortable.
