Internship information
General Farm Description: Sugar Hollow Farm is a family farm located in the hip community of Marshall, NC just outside of Asheville , NC. Our farm raises many things: chickens for eggs and meat, cows for dairy and beef, and pigs for pork. We focus on regenerative farming and use organic practices, though we are not certified. We sell direct to the community at local farmers' markets. To give you an idea of scale, we have approximately 1500 layer chickens, 34 beef cows, 4 milk cows, 20 pigs, some sheep mainly to keep the people happy where we utilize land, and 1000 meat birds. You will receive lots of hands on experience at Sugar Hollow Farm as we do a bit of everything .CRAFT Member Farm? No
Internship Starts: 7/1/2025
Internship Ends: ideally we are looking for a long term candidate.
Number of Internship Available: 1
Application Deadline: until the right person is found
Minimum Length of Stay: 6 months
Internship Details:
The ideal intern candidate has experience with cows and milking, though this is not necessity.
Our goal for this internship is to find someone to help milk. You will be working by yourself a lot, so you must be able to work independently. You must be able to handle large animals; if you are afraid of cows, this job is not for you. (The cows are sweet, but they are large) You must be able to follow instructions and pay attention to detail… especially when it comes to raw milk. Raw milk is amazing if done properly. We milk on a pipeline system 2 times a day, so if you want to learn how to milk cows, we are here for you.
You will also learn a lot about animal husbandry as we do most things ourselves. If you are an independent person craving a job outdoors, working with animals, in a beautiful farming community, we are a good fit for you.
Educational Opportunities: As a dairy farmer, we will teach you how to milk on a pipeline system.
Skills Desired:
Meals: free milk and eggs
Stipend:
Housing: There is an RV on the property that will house a couple or 1 person.
Preferred method of Contact: email or call
