General Farm Description: Plum Forest Farm provides great food for our community. We are small, minimally mechanized and diverse, with a focus on soil regeneration and supporting biodiversity. We raise certified organic vegetables, fruits and eggs as well as grass fed beef cattle and pastured roasting chickens. We sell most of our products at our vibrant farm stand. Internship Details:
Plum Forest Farm is seeking motivated individuals who are seriously interested in a future career in organic farming, who are experienced doing physical work, who enjoy working with other people, are excited about the local food movement, and who thrive working outdoors no matter the weather.
This position will run from April 15 through October 28, 2022. The workday is four days per week, Tuesday through Friday, approximately 9am-5pm each day, with a 45 minute lunch break. In addition, interns will be asked to cover a portion of farm animal chores and watering, including one weekend per month.
Housing on the farm is included, in a small, private cabin plus a shared kitchen. In addition, we offer a monthly stipend of $650 per month, plus fresh food from the farm, primarily fruits and vegetables. Interns will receive one week of paid vacation during the season.
This year’s farm team includes the farm owners plus former interns who are now on staff. We offer our interns the opportunity for hands on learning of everything required to run a small diverse farm such as ours. People who complete successful the internship are the first considered for future farm employment.
Educational Opportunities: Hands-on learning about small-scale farming that integrates crops and livestock growing high quality products for a local market. Also experience marketing through our on-farm farm stand. Participation with farm owners and experienced staff in all aspects of farm with lots of explanation. We also coordinate with other farms in our community to create shared learning experiences for interns as part of the CRAFT program.
Skills Desired: Enjoy working outdoors with others with gusto. Strong interest in gaining practical experience in small scale diverse organic farming. We enjoy working with people who are excited about learning, have a positive outlook, and a healthy, strong body and lifestyle.
Meals: Delicious farm food, but no meals provided.
