Internship Details:
We’re seeking a Livestock Manager for a year-round, full time position, to support day-to-day operations on our 30 acre farm in Mulino, Oregon. We are in the process of building a rustic on farm apartment, which will be available for the Livestock Manager.
Responsibilities
Animal chores: provide feed via tractor, water, bedding and shelter for animals on pasture
Driving: transport animals to the farm and to a meat processing facility, haul livestock feed from local mill back to farm
Administer vaccinations and castrate piglets (training provided)
Manage 30 acres of silvopasture-style forage production including seeding, tree planting, irrigation (if necessary) and organic weed control
Light construction and infrastructure projects as needed
Work alongside and supervise a small crew
Option to work Farmers’ Market booth if desired
Educational Opportunities: You will be an integral part of our farm and have the opportunity to learn how to run a business, a breeding program, regenerative agriculture practices, animal handling skills.
Skills Desired: Demonstrated dedication to sustainable agriculture Strong work ethic and attention to detail Experience working with pigs and poultry Ability to solve problems and research solutions with minimal direction Experience operating a tractor and loader Experience driving a truck and trailer Mechanical, carpentry, welding, electrical, plumbing or other trade skills are a plus Ability to lift 50 pounds and frequently work in inclement weather while maintaining a positive attitude and good sense of humor
