General Farm Description: THIS IS A CALL TO FARMERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR GLOBAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM AND HOST AN INTERNATIONAL STEWARD AT THEIR FARM. MESA connects and cultivates sustainable farmers and food systems leaders around the world. Nearing three decades as a pioneering nonprofit within the global agroecology movement, MESA and our U.S. and global partners facilitate in-person and online training opportunities that promote ancestral heritage, agricultural innovation, and community engagement. Minimum Length of Stay: 3 months, maximum is 12 months for the J-1 Visa
Internship Details:
Educational Opportunities: Yes. This is an educational opportunity and a cultural exchange. U.S. Hosts embrace MESA’s learn and share model of cross-cultural exchange and are eager to share and learn traditions, techniques, and innovations in sustainable food and farming systems with their Stewards. Hands-on training may include skill-building in sustainable food production, distribution, marketing, education, research and/or community organizing.
Skills Desired: Most Stewards come with prior agricultural experience or have grown up on a farm in their home country. MESA matches Stewards and Hosts accordingly based on needs/ interests and specialties.
Meals: Yes, by the Host.
Stipend: MESA COLLECTS A MONTHLY FEE AND DISTRIBUTES THE STIPENDS TO STEWARDS. The monthly fee covers each stewards stipend along with legal training visa, medical insurance, and enrollments by MESA, frequent check-ins, monthly educational zoom community building, educational opportunities, a global network, google classroom- resource-sharing platform, and alumni network.
