General Farm Description: Worden Farm is a certified organic family farm in Southwest Florida, founded and actively run by Chris Worden, Ph.D. and Eva Worden, Ph.D. Worden Farm produce is 100% USDA-certified organic and available directly to the local community in season, Fall through Spring, through a community supported agriculture (CSA) organic veggie box membership program, and through local farmers markets, since 2003. The Wordens have shared their knowledge of organic food and agriculture, through educational videos, television shows, workshops, farm tours, university courses, conferences, consulting and an intensive farm apprenticeship program. They have promoted agricultural development and community greening projects within the United States and internationally. The Wordens are recipients of the Florida Innovative Farmer Award, and have been recognized as Organic Farmer Experts by the Organic Trade Association and the United States Department of Agriculture. Worden Farm has been featured widely in the media, including PBS-TV, The NBC Nightly News, Daytime, America’s Heartland, USA Today, Southern Living, Bon Appetit, American Farmer, and The New Pioneer.

Internship Details:

Worden Farm hosts apprentices during the Florida winter vegetable season, from October through May.

Apprentices receive a hands-on education in organic crop production and marketing, and are paid an hourly wage.

Training includes informal farm skill demonstrations and exposure to key components of farm management, such as organic certification protocols and farm record-keeping requirements. Tasks include planting, greenhouse management, transplant production, irrigation projects, crop maintenance, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and direct-marketing through farmers markets and the CSA farm membership program.

Preference is given to full-season applicants with previous related experience and professional interest in agriculture.

Meals: An abundance of organic vegetables from the farm is provided to apprentices for their personal use.

Stipend: Stipend starts at $14/hour

Housing: Apprentices are responsible for their own housing. Room rental options from farm members are available.
