General Farm Description: Our 84 acre farm sits on the floor of the beautiful Bitterroot Valley nestled next to a mountain range in Southwest Montana. We are a farmstead sheep dairy and creamery - meaning that we use only our own milk to make cheese on farm. We also supply local markets with pastured pork and grass-fed lamb. Our mission is to raise healthy animals and healthy soil utilizing proper grazing and land management. We are moving closer each year to being a self-sustaining farm system.

Internship Details:

“We offer internships in both our dairy and creamery, this listing is pertaining to the dairy internship but feel free to contact us if you are interested in the creamery internship. The dairy internship focuses on learning the skills required to work at a sheep dairy, this includes milking, lambing, chores and other farm tasks.”

Educational Opportunities: "Interns will learn how to milk and maintain a dairy sheep flock. This includes lambing, bottle feeding, breeding practices, nutrition, and grazing. Depending on the time of year and length of stay, interns can also learn irrigation practices, tractor maintenance and operations, fencing and construction. Those who stay for a year will get to learn from 3 lambings and 4 seasons of sheep management. "

Skills Desired: "The willingness to work hard and work early in the morning or late at night when needed is paramount. Your attitude is the most important thing to us, if you have the desire to learn, then we are more than happy to train you to the skills needed. This is challenging work, so interns must be determined and self motivated individuals who are willing to push them selves to excel. Skills can be developed while you are here. It is also important to be comfortable, calm, and invested in our animals' well-being. "

Meals: "Interns will prepare their own meals. Lamb, pork and cheese will be provided when available. "

Stipend: Interns will start at $800 a month as well as room. Monthly stipend can increase as skills are acquired.

Housing: "We have an intern "bunkhouse" and two campers for intern use. In addition, we rent a two bedroom apartment off farm for intern use. All interns will have full use of the bathroom, kitchen, and living room in the bunkhouse. "
