General Farm Description: Tangled Willows Farm is a 3-acre specialty pastured poultry operation located in Snohomish, WA. Our focus is on regenerative agricultural practices raising ducks and quail for eggs. We supply our local cooperative, PCC Community Markets, and sell in five locations. Our goal is to maintain healthy soils without the use of any chemical spraying and are transitioning our laying ducks to heritage breeds only.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Tangled Willows Farm is looking for one part time employee for the 2022 growing season. This summer we will be raising our new laying duck flock, starting a small goose meat trial, and retiring our current laying flock in the fall of 2022. We are looking for applicants who are detail orientated, hardworking, punctual, and trustworthy. Ideal candidates should have an interest in pursuing a career related to sustainable agriculture.
Responsibilities:
• Feeding, watering, pasture rotation, coop cleaning of mature laying flock
• Feeding, watering, poultry tractor rotation of quail flock
• Feeding, watering, brooder cleaning of duckling flock
• Feeding, watering, brooder cleaning of gosling flock
• Egg collection, washing, and packaging
• Possible egg deliveries (weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays)
• Watering of young pawpaw orchard
• Watering and weeding of flower patch
• Invasive plant/weed removal in pastures
• Sanitation of animal feeders and waters
Educational Opportunities: • Cover cropping/pasture management • Wildlife track and sign/wild bird identification • Predation management • Poultry nutrition, handling, and possibly harvesting
Skills Desired: Applicants with previous poultry or other agricultural experience are preferred but we are willing to train the right person. Applicants will work two days per week. Once trained, the applicant will work independently outside of major projects. Attention to detail, strong work ethic, reliability and trustworthiness are critical characteristics. The work day averages 4-8 hours depending on the number of animals present on the farm and time of year. One weekend day is expected and work days don’t need to be consecutive. Carry 50 pounds over uneven ground • Be able to work in all outdoor conditions including rain, cold, extreme heat, and wildfire smoke • Have their own reliable form of transportation • Be 18 years of age or older • Willing to commit to the full growing season • Have a love of working with animals • Willing to get dirty and be able to work competently on their own
Meals: No
Stipend: $14.50/hour, one dozen duck eggs per week, fruit and flowers when available. Unfortunately, housing is not provided. Someone with a flexible schedule is preferred so the farm owner can take time away for weddings and family obligations.
