General Farm Description: Root Down Farm is a 300 member CSA farm serving greater Buffalo. We are entering our 13th season this year. We farm 12 acres of mixed vegetables, herbs, melons, and cut flowers on land protected by the WNY Land Conservancy. We also deliver to wholesale accounts that include local restaurants, grocery stores, and other farms.

Internship Details:

We are looking for farm crew members and interns (Full and Part Time positions available). All Crew Members are involved in multiple aspects of the farm including transplanting, hand weeding, hoeing, harvesting, washing and packing produce. There is also greenhouse and high tunnel work including seeding, watering, trellising and turning beds by hand. We also have wholesale accounts which require harvest, packing and delivering for. If you have interest in or experience with tractors then you would also be helping with field prep, bed forming, transplanting, and cover cropping.
The farm work environment is uptempo and requires the physical capability to contribute daily in a rigorous, fast paced setting. Farm work is incredibly rewarding, yet physically demanding. Please consider this commitment before applying. Pay is commensurate with experience. The season generally starts between March 1st and April 1st depending on your schedule, and ends in the Fall, but the farm schedule is flexible (even though there are specific dates listed). Educational Opportunities: Educational opportunities depend on your interests, experience, and position sought. All Farm Crew members work alongside the farm managers. At the risk of sounding cheesy there are educational opportunities that occur every day on a farm. If you are looking for more structure in your farm education, then apply for an internship. Interns meet with a farm manager monthly in a more formal educational setting to discuss farm related material. Interns also have access to free NOFA-NY field trips throughout the season. All Farm Crew members are involved in all aspects of the farm, and are also part of the end-of-season meeting.

Skills Desired: Farming or related experience is a plus, but not required.

Meals: No. Special occasion meals are shared/provided

Stipend: Pay starting at $16.50/hr for those with relevant experience. A share in the farm's produce plus other products from other local producers available
