General Farm Description: The Organic Farm School operates a community-scaled annual vegetable farm on Whidbey Island in the PNW. We serve our local food system by growing a diversity of crops on 4-5 acres and selling the produce at multiple outlets, which provides the foundation for our field training and community education opportunities.

Internship Details:

One-Month Summer Blocks are opportunities for those who are interested in taking their academic understanding of small scale farming and apply them out in the field for an intense but short-term experience. Summer block participants will be incorporated into our production plan, and will work under the supervision of our field staff and 7-month apprentices. You will gain experience with propagation, cultivation, harvest, wash-pack, and marketing/deliveries. This program is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the kinds of follow up opportunities that can round out your readiness to farm. Summer Blocks are great for GAP students, or for those hoping to participate in the WWOOFing program. Participants can register from 2-weeks to three months. Fee is $750/month and $400/2-weeks.

Educational Opportunities: In-field training.

Skills Desired: - 18 years or older and have a valid drivers’ license - Able to perform physical labor for 8 hours a day for 5-7 days per week - Have some knowledge or experience in sustainable agriculture--this could be anything from reading educational books, having worked on a school farm, or taken a course on the topic

Meals: No, however participants are encouraged to harvest from the field for their meals.

Stipend: No

Housing: Yes, a shared sleeping cabin (two people per cabin) that is near shared shower/bathroom/kitchen facilities on site.
