General Farm Description: "Mesa Farm is located in South Central Utah, very near Capitol Reef National Park. We are committed to sustainable small scale agriculture. We have been farming here for more than 20 years.We are working with 50 acres, 40 acres are flash flood river bottom used to provide a goat herd of 45 + does with browse. There are 60 fruit trees, four acres of rotational pasture, a vegetable garden and a greenhouse.
We produce a farmstead goat cheese that has gained a world class status. This year our Tome cheese was awarded Best of Show at the annual Utah Cheese Competition. This cheese is marketed by Caputo's Deli, the finest deli in Salt Lake City. We have a store front that also allows us to direct market our cheese, added value vegetables and breads to tourists visiting the area. We also participate in a weekly farmers' market.

Internship Details:
“We are most interested in finding persons interested in learning the ins and outs of farmstead cheese. Interns will be responsible for caring for and milking the goats. Interns involved with the goats will be expected to share the milking of the goats, clean the equipment and the barns. On the mornings that you are not milking, you will be involved in another aspect of the farm business, this may include baking bread, making cheese, tending the garden and working with customers at our store front. The work schedule is a minimum of 5 days a week, 10 hours each day. You may be required to work an additional day occasionally in order to allow others an opportunity to take time away,“
Educational Opportunities: "Interns will have the opportunity to learn the farmstead cheese business, artisan bread baking in a wood fired oven, gardening skills and added value production of the produce in the garden. We aim to foster the skill sets needed to manage a successful small farm operation. Opportunities to gain knowledge are abundant. "
Skills Desired: "Farm experience, animal husbandry skills, mechanical skills, retail added value food production skills and people skills are of value. "
Meals: food from the farm and basic staples are provided
Stipend: stipend begins at $750 per month. More experienced and fully engaged interns will receive more.
Housing: Interns will be provided a modest private residence. No running water, compost toilet etc. Shower etc available on site.
