General Farm Description: We are a diversified produce farm using the Community Supported Agriculture model. We grow all types of vegetables, berries, herbs, as well as honey, apples and eggs for our members in Rochester and the Twin Cities. Our 40 acre farm, situated in a picturesque setting of rolling hills, woods and stream, has 20 acres tilled for our CSA business as well as 2 pastures for horses and some cattle. Our 200 chickens roam the farm.

Internship Details:

This Internship is for a Field Manager position. It is mandatory that this person loves hard, physical outdoor work and has a genuine interest in sustainable agriculture. Farm experience would be very helpful, but is not a requirement for this position. Leading by example is the surest way to earn respect and build a strong team spirit. Managing and motivating a group of 4- 6 farm workers, having strong communication skills, and possessing a joyful demeanor are all necessary attributes for success.
The work would include: greenhouse seeding and care of vegetable starts, field seeding and transplanting, hoeing and weeding, irrigation, trellising, use of row cover and plastic mulch, harvesting produce, washing and packing of CSA boxes, preserving and storage of crops. There is also the opportunity to have your own garden plot or to participate in the Rochester Farmers Market.

Educational Opportunities: An open and direct working relationship with the farmer is critical. As a 20 year veteran farmer, I have a wealth of information that I would like to pass along to young prospective farmers. In addition to our daily group meetings each morning, you would have access to the how's and why's of our business decisions. If you have a desire to have your own farm operation some day, this would be a wonderful chance for you to learn and grow.

Skills Desired: An enjoyable person who has a strong work ethic, leadership skills and a love of the outdoors!

Meals: Field produce, and many staples are provided. We eat 3 evening meals together each week, with everyone taking turns to cook one of these. You would be responsible for your own breakfast and lunches and snacks.

Stipend: $2000 per month stipend. A bonus at the end of the season to reflect the season's success.

Housing: Yes. You would have your choice of your own private 'tiny house', or a shared room in a bunkhouse. A shared intern living room, kitchen, bathroom, and laundry is provided in our home's lower floors. There are 2 outhouses, an intern patio and deck, and a large lawn with campfire/pizza oven.
