General Farm Description: "Fickle Creek Farm is a diversified 235 acre farm in the Piedmont of North Carolina, 25 minutes west of Chapel Hill and Durham. Our pastured livestock includes ~30 Katahdin ewe grass fed sheep flock + offspring, 30 Senepol-Angus grass fed brood cows + 60+ offspring, four batches of 28 Farmers Hybrid feeder pigs, four batches of 700 meat chickens, ~1200 laying hens, and seasonal turkeys. We also grow ~3 acres of vegetables, including 3 large and 2 small hoophouses. A small farm stay accommodation allows visitors to better understand of sustainable farming practices. We also provide farm tours to all types of groups. Farm products are sold directly to consumers through 3 farmers markets and an on farm store, as well as wholesale to restaurants. English, Spanish, French, KiLuba, & Hebrew spoken to varying degrees.

**Livestock & Backup Produce Team Member** OPEN POSITION NOW! (2026)
1 to 2 year commitment. Position requires 2+ years livestock experience, with minimum one year full time experience with beef cattle.

Work full time in year-round position as primary herdsperson for 85+ beef cattle of various ages. Minimum $15 per hour compensation with increases based on experience and performance to reach $18.18 per hour (Orange County Living Wage). Housing available, free farm veggies and eggs; discounted meat purchases; Continuing education. Option to transition to farm ownership!

Responsibilities include daily management of pasture rotation, breeding, and calving for 25 cow herd and ~60+ offspring; As needed perform castrations and health management; Fence troubleshooting and repair; Tractor operation; . Seasonal and support production of egg laying flock, seasonal broilers, 28 head feeder pig, 20 ewe Katahdin sheep flock and offspring,

Desired skills include basic knowledge of livestock handling and husbandry including cattle, sheep, chickens, pigs, and turkeys; Troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of portable and permanent high tensile fence, as well as float valve waterers; Basic tractor operation skills and experience maintaining equipment preferred; Punctual and reliable, with great people skills; Able to lift 50 lbs; Spreadsheet management; Assist with other farm tasks such as field transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing, deliveries, farmers markets, and value-added production during off peak seasons.

Now through November 2026 with opportunities to stay longer. $1200 per month with $100 increase every 3 month and a $100 bonus per month completion bonus. Potential increases based on experience and performance.

Focus on vegetable production and all aspects of livestock chores including egg collection, cattle moves, lambing and calving, tagging, etc. This live-on-the-farm, hands-on experience is for individuals who have some farm experience, but would like to gain additional skills on a diverse, sustainable farm. Ability to work independently, as well as interact constructively with others is key. Benefits include on-farm housing, a share of farm vegetables and eggs, a $60 a month meat stipend, and one-on-one learning opportunities.

Opportunities to learn include holistic farm planning, interactions among farm enterprises, retail-direct marketing, basic farm business finances, and record keeping. Livestock skills include land stewardship, pasture management, low-stress animal handling, biological monitoring, and record-keeping. Vegetable production skills offered include in-depth experience with organic growing practices from greenhouse production of transplants through field growing, weeding, harvesting, produce washing and packing, post harvest handling, and crop and cover-crop scheduling.

**Lead Vegetable Grower / Backup Livestock Worker**
1 to 2 year commitment. Position requires 2+ years experience growing. $15 per hour minimum; Increases to $18.18 per hour after 720 hours. Compensation based on experience and performance.

Responsibilities include providing primary support to farm foreman and day to day task related to vegetable production including greenhouse management, transplant production, soil fertility management, weeding management, harvest and post harvest management. This position will include managing interns and sometimes wwoofers in daily vegetable tasks. Benefits include on-farm housing, a share of farm vegetables and eggs, a $60 a month meat stipend, and one-on-one learning opportunities.

Educational Opportunities: Financial support available for for attending workshops and conferences.

Skills Desired: Experience with livestock, poultry, and vegetable production, as well as basic mechanical and construction skills desired. Strong work ethic required. We seek individuals who are hard-working, motivated, and dedicated to sustainable farming. Productivity, alertness, speed, and problem-solving skills are important for the work required.
