Internship information
General Farm Description: For a decade, we have been carefully stewarding sixty acres of farm land in North Central Florida to produce healthy food and jobs for our community. We grow over eighty types of produce and care for chickens and pigs raised on pasture, to produce nutritionally dense and flavorful food and medicine crops. We take pride in selecting the best varieties, then carefully growing, harvesting, washing and packing your food. Our mission is to get healthy food to as many people as possible. We work with a team of over twenty-five people including year round staff and seasonal H2A guest workers to achieve this goal. We have been certified organic since 2012 No plastic mulch used on our farm We practice cover cropping & crop rotation We use soy free and organic animal feed We also work with over a dozen other local farmers to help them access markets through our food hub to support our regional food system. We participate in and support research on organic farming systems in cooperation with researchers at the University of Florida and beyond. We connect with our community by offering educational farm tours and u-pick experiences, and give back by donating produce to local organizations who help underserved communities.CRAFT Member Farm? Internship Details:
We are seeking motivated people who care about sustainable and regenerative agriculture to join our team. If you are seeking an experiential education on a production farm (not a hobby farm) this is for you. We cultivate over 40 acres including diversified vegetables, orchard crops, and pastured animals. We run routes to three metropolitan areas and operate five farmers markets per week, feeding thousands of people fresh, local and organic foods. This internship is effectively a seasonal farm job, plus once a week mentoring and shadowing opportunity with the farm operators. Successful interns may be hired on as full time farm staff, with the opportunity to grow their own crops on a provided plot of land, once they have completed at least three months of their internship and submitted a crop plan, developed in coordination with our Production Manager. Funding may be available for your project through our non -profit Free Mulch, Inc. Interns will be expected to participate in all aspects of the farm including propagation, harvesting planting, weeding, post harvest handling, packing, delivery of orders and farmers markets. Advanced interns with existing farm experience may be included in tractor operations. All interns will be expected to set goals and then evaluate their progress during and after the internship.
When applying, please indicate the following:
