Internship information
General Farm Description: Dreamfields Farm is a worker-owned ranch in the northern Oregon coast range. We raise of meat chickens, pigs, goats, all on pasture. We implement systems of rotational grazing and biodiversity that keep our animals happy and healthy, raised under the sun and on grass. We will be phasing out of goats and moving into cattle. Most of our product is sold through farmers markets in the Portland area, as well as restaurants and our CSA. Dreamfields is politically driven to address many of the issues that define the farm-to-table movement; food sovereignty, accessibility, and mutual aid are the means in which we produce food for our community. BIPOC and queer friendly. We’re not hippies and we’re definitely not conservative!! Agriculture is inherently political whether we like it or not.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Interns will learn and participate in every aspect of regenerative animal husbandry, as well as marketing and butchering. You will be working 4-5 days a week. Some days will be very simple; feeding animals in the morning and night, checking waterers, checking fences, cleaning animal enclosures, and moving chicken tractors. Other days will be harder and longer. We do a lot of our own animal processing, so some days you’ll be helping us butcher chickens and pigs. And those are long days. We will also be transitioning into cattle, so moving them might also become a chore later in the summer. We are looking for folks who have the ability to operate autonomously as well as work in a team setting.
There will also be work days off the farm doing deliveries and farmers markets. With that being said, our interns must be personable and enjoy some socializing. We also have a large vegetable garden that interns will be expected to help maintain.
This line of work is incredibly physical and hard. The summers can get very hot, and interns need to be able to work in the sun and lift at least 50lbs.
farming(especially with animals) requires the ability to adapt. There may be a plan and schedule in place, but it is important that individuals understand that things can change quickly. Being able to improvise and problem solve are paramount to the process.
Educational Opportunities: Interns will learn all the ins and outs of raising animals, maintaining fences and building things, as well as how to run a farm business.
Skills Desired: No farm experience is required, however it would be preferred. We need hard workers with stamina and a willingness to learn and adapt.
Meals: We will cook and provide dinner 3 nights a week with leftovers. We grow a huge vegetable garden and interns will have full and unlimited access to it.
Stipend: $600 per month.
Housing: Yes. We have a separate building with a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and shower. We also have a converted school bus/tiny home, whichever intern gets here first(or is staying the longest) will get first pick.
