General Farm Description: HawkMoth Farm is a small family owned and operated farm in Anton Chico, New Mexico founded in 2007. We use agroecological and traditional acequia practices to grow food, adapted seed, beneficial habitat, foster food justice and environmental resilience. We grow perennial and annual fruits and vegetables in field and in hoop houses for our local farmers market, grow experimental crops to learn from, conduct informal plant breeding, and do a lot of seed saving. We use cover crops and integrative livestock for soil health and pest management. We raise chickens, ducks, honeybees, and also sheep for dairy, meat and wool production. We are processing wool from our sheep and exploring fiber integration on the farm and for creative endeavors.

Internship Details:

We are seeking 1-2 season long interns who are interested in work/learn opportunities we offer on our farm. We provide full meals and housing and a stipend is available upon demonstration of work performance and willingness to work over 25 hours per week. We most value someone who is excited to farm, has a positive and caring attitude, is willing to work hard and open to learning and contributing. Interns will work alongside us most of the time and also do some work on their own. Work opportunities are as follows – spring includes: lambing, milking sheep, shearing, butchering sheep, overall livestock care, pruning, seed processing, starting seedlings, prepping hoop houses and fields, infrastructure projects, making cheese, and processing wool; summer includes: prepping fields, planting, weeding, harvesting, farmers market, livestock care, cheese making, and wool processing; fall includes: planting, harvesting, food and seed processing, weeding, farmers market, livestock care, shearing, cheese making and wool processing; winter includes: all around farm clean-up and infrastructure projects, food processing, butchering, livestock care, wool processing. All of this happens in a matter of prioritizing needs that serve the farm.

Skills Desired: Minimal experience requested; must be physically able to do manual labor/farm work, willing to work hard outside in varying environmental conditions, and excited to learn and contribute.

Meals: Yes, all meals are provided, offering vegetarian and meat. Interns are responsible for personal/special dietary needs.

Stipend: Stipend is available for season long interns who demonstrate successful knowledge and work ability and who work 30-40 hours per week.

Housing: Housing prioritized for season long interns.
