General Farm Description: Located in Warfordsburg, PA, the Farm of Peace is home to a 3-acre CSA garden, a small flock of Tunis sheep, laying and broiler hens, a straw-bale constructed healing retreat center and a small community of on-site residents. The CSA growing space includes 3 fenced acres with 2 high tunnels and a seed starting shed, typically serving 50-100 CSA members weekly and a local farm market, May-November. Farm of Peace is a 501c3 religious non-profit, dedicated to spiritual development and spiritual and medical healing in the Shadhiliyya Sufi Way rooted in divine Love.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
At the Farm of Peace we offer hands on learning supported by our CSA Manger and Head Grower. The beginning farmer internship is a wonderful hands-on introduction to the world of farming, under the guidance of others with a wealth of experience in growing, harvesting, and serving a community.
Experience is not required (although basic gardening is helpful) and training is provided. Must be physically fit and able to work long hours in most weather. Our ideal candidate must be enthusiastic about sustainable agriculture, learn new skills quickly, follow all procedures, and be comfortable and productive working alone or with others.
Learn and assist in regular garden tasks, including but not limited to:
● Seeding and transplanting
● Setting up hoops and row cover
● Helping install and troubleshoot irrigation
● Mulching and weeding
● Mowing, weed whacking and possibly use of other equipment
● Harvesting, washing and bagging of vegetables for delivery, following food safety protocol
● Help staff the once weekly Farmer’s Market on occasion
Hours & Compensation
Monthly stipend of $700-$1000, with housing available and surplus produce in season. Average of 8 working hours, 5 days a week, depending on time of year and day of week. Mondays off, plus either Sunday or Tuesday.

Educational Opportunities: Our CSA Manager and Head Grower are committed to training apprentices in all aspects of vegetable production. Education is provided through on-farm instruction, and participation in regional farmer training workshops as available. At least one farmer works alongside our intern most of the time, providing guidance and ensuring that all tasks are learned and completed correctly and efficiently. Interns will be invited to our weekly crew meeting, to tune into the birds eye view from which weekly goals and tasks are developed.
Skills Desired: Farm experience is not required, but a positive attitude, willingness to work hard, honesty, communication, and a light-hearted sense of humor will help build a successful team. Applicants should be physically fit, self-motivated, and have outdoor experience or transferable skills. We are seeking those who enjoy mother nature in her many moods and have an inclination and appreciation of working in varying weather conditions.
Meals: No, Produce is available for interns and rustic cooking space is available. Interns are invited to community potlucks, as COVID restrictions allow for group gatherings to return in the future. Outdoor meal sharing is permitted.

Housing: Yes, On-farm rustic living space with shared bathroom/cooking space is available to field crew, plus surplus garden produce. The Farm of Peace is a drug- and alcohol-free property. Wifi is available at several places around the farm for free.
