Internship information
General Farm Description: We live on a large beautiful property. There is a food forest, orchard, and a market garden that are always changing. We have chickens, ducks, cows, wildlife, and lots of large old oak trees. Ayavalla is a 5,000 acre plantation featuring a relatively new market garden area that is also home to chickens, ducks and sheep. These are tended to by our livestock staff. The remaining property contains areas of pasture raised beef cattle, owner/worker housing, a food forest, orchard, beautiful scenic rolling hills and large oak trees. Downtown Tallahassee is within a 20 minute drive.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Need farm workers with farm experience
A farmhand is needed to help in the market garden weeding, planting, and possibly some harvesting and assisting with watering depending on experience. This work will be done in all types of weather. It can be extremely hot and humid in Northern Florida.
But, it may also dip down into the 30’s in the winter months.
We are still developing the garden so part of what you will get to be part of are the discussions on what items are selling, what needs to be succession planted, and what items did not do well. Rather than sell at a farmer’s market, we sell thru an online market called Red Hills Online. An onsite farm stand is planned for the future.
A farmhand wears many hats in a single day and must be able to shift their focus to the immediate needs of their fellow workers and the garden itself.
Educational Opportunities: yes This is a learn by doing situation. Certainly there will be an explanation of why something is done a certain way but we will not necessarily work side by side with you. We're always happy to answer any questions and demonstrate the required skills.
Skills Desired: Looking for people that work well with others. Gardening experience. Good work ethic. Some experience with farming or large scale gardening is very helpful. We have a diverse group of workers so an easy disposition is helpful. And due to the ups and downs of farming a good sense of humour is much appreciated!
Meals: Lunch is cooked for us Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Seconds from the farm's produce are sometimes available. For other meals you are on your own. A Publix grocery store is within a ten minute drive.
Stipend: Yes, Discuss during your interview.
Housing: Yes, Discuss during your interview.
