Internship information
General Farm Description: BRV Farm is a 150 acre farm which specializes in fresh cut flowers. We also grow lavender, vegetables, shiitake mushrooms, and fraser fir trees. We are located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Ashe County, NC and Grayson County, VA. On our farm you will also find chickens, ducks, dogs and horses. We currently have three greenhouses and adding two more this year. We are not certified organic but we do practice organic, all-natural growing methods.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Two Intern positions are available for cut flower farming as well as growing vegetables, lavender and fraser fir seedlings. Being an intern at BRV Farm will be an immersive experience. During the course of the season you will be involved in many aspects of running the farm which includes some of the following: greenhouse production, seeding, cultivating, planting, harvesting, insect and disease management, irrigation, helping at farmers markets, etc. Housing is available with kitchen, bathroom, and bedding which will be shared between both interns. Farming is a physical endeavor that requires the use of ones body on a daily basis. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, hard workers, love to work outside, want to learn about farming and follow direction easily. Pay will include a $600 monthly stipend per intern as well as produce and eggs from the farm, and some essentials like milk and bread. Interns will need to provide their own means of transportation. Internship is from March until October but will consider other options if not available to work the entire internship period. Interns are expected to work anywhere from 45 to 60 hours per week. There is a two week trail period at the beginning of the internship.
Educational Opportunities: The educational experience will primarily be hands on experience at the farm on a daily basis. Interns will learn how to sow seeds, transplant seedlings, cultivate the land, harvest flowers etc, installing and using irrigation, fertilizing, arranging flowers, working farmers markets, etc.
Skills Desired: Experience is a plus but not required.
Meals: Weekly Eggs, milk, bread will be provided as well as 1 meal per week.
Stipend: Stipend is $600 per month.
Housing: Housing is provide with kitchen, bathroom, heat and ac.
