General Farm Description: One of the oldest and most respected CSAs in the country is seeking an apprentice for its 2026 season. Applicants for the Apprenticeship should be seeking a hands-on learning experience on a production-oriented farm. We offer apprentices room and board, a stipend, shared lunches, educational opportunities, and involvement in Farm events in exchange for 40 to 50 hours of work per week. Apprenticeship housing is in a historic farmhouse on the farm. Applicants must visit the farm to evaluate the suitability of the position. Interested individuals should send a resume and a letter outlining their goals and interests in agriculture to: CSGapprenticeship@gmail.com or The Community Supported Garden at Genesis Farm; 41B Silver Lake Road; Blairstown, New Jersey 07825; Telephone: 908-362-7486 For info, please go to https://csgatgenesisfarm.com/apprenticeship/CRAFT Member Farm? While here you will learn about full-season CSA, how to grow and maintain a diverse variety of vegetables, have opportunities in community events and workshops, and steward the land with sustainable organic farming practices. We strive to teach good work habits so apprentices feel confident to discern their future in farming. During the season you will be exposed to among other things:
– Basics of crop rotation
– Basics of cover-cropping
– Basic understanding of field maps
– Familiarity with irrigation methods and its implementation
– Seed saving – collecting, cleaning, and storing
– Taking ownership of a certain vegetable from sowing to maintenance to harvest over the life of the crop.
– An understanding of the concept of CSA
– How to create a well-rounded share for the members
– Cooking with seasonal vegetables, preservation and root cellaring
– Strategies for organic insect control
-Machine operation dependent on aptitude
Educational Opportunities: Beside the daily hands on learning the apprentice will have the option of attending educational events and workshops put on by our farm or by other farms and organizations offering these types of opportunities. A book study is typically undertaken in the fall and a visit to other ag related enterprises is helpful in rounding out the experience.
Skills Desired: We prefer an individual who has some experience with farming , enough to imagine a career in agriculture. With an experience at the CSG at Genesis Farm the apprentice can take their farming education to the next level. Hence, we foresee a motivated individual who can step in and be a contributing member while learning new skills and methods at the same time.
Meals: Three days each week we take turns cooking and gather around the table to enjoy a hot lunch prepared with the food from the farm.
Stipend: $550/week. With room and board, this comes to about $19/hr
Housing: Room and board is included in the stipend. Housing is in a historic farmhouse on the farm. Each apprentice has their own room. Shared kitchen, bath and living space.
