General Farm Description: The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps’ Food and Farm Program is a dynamic youth development, diversified agriculture and food security initiative. We believe in the power that food has to connect us to the land, our community, and each other. We engage young people in organic farming and culinary education on our historic 400-acre campus in Richmond, Vermont where we grow organically certified vegetables and pasture- raised chickens that are distributed to more than 400 families through our nationally recognized Health Care Share program.CRAFT Member Farm? Internship Details:
We are hiring 12 leaders to join the 2023 cohort. These are leadership roles on the farm with responsibilities ranging from post-harvest to leading youth crews. All Leaders start the season together with training and work in many areas of the farm (especially in the spring and fall). During the summer when high school and college age members join the farm, Leaders step more into their specialized roles. Youth Crew Leaders (5)- Guide a crew of high school age members in the summer, spend the spring and fall getting your hands in the soil and being a part of all aspects of work on the farm
Production Crew Leaders (2)- Guide a crew of college-age members in the summer, spend the spring and fall getting your hands in the soil and being a part of all aspects of work on the farm
Community Health Leader– Assist in getting farm fresh produce to Health Care Share members by working on everything from member sign ups to weekly share packing and delivery logistics
Food & Nourishment Leaders (2)- Teach summer crew members how to prepare delicious recipes with farm fresh produce and work in the kitchen to turn farm veggies into products for the Health Care Share
Post-harvest Leader– Help produce make its journey out of the field and into the share! Manage the washing, packing, and storage of crops
Farm to Community Leader– Guide crew members in keeping the road side farm stand stocked and looking vibrant
Educational Opportunities: Eligible for Segal Education Award upon completion of service: $4,546.50
Skills Desired: We are looking for Leaders that are interested and committed to organic agriculture production, food access, and youth development.
Meals: During peak season, we offer daily lunch. Additionally, all farm team members get a weekly food share and access to additional veggies when available.
Stipend: $515/week for residential members living on-site, $620/week for members living off-site
Housing: We have some optional housing, on a first come, first served basis. The weekly living stipend reflects residential vs non-residential Leader pay.
