General Farm Description: Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm is a historic site and working farm featuring exhibits, gardens, walking trails and more. Visitors are invited to explore 200+ years of NH’s agricultural traditions combined with the unique story of two country doctors. We practice sustainable agriculture in our gardens and hay fields; as well as humane treatment of our livestock (chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, beef & dairy cattle, and our mini horse Sadie). Internship Details:

Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm (located in the historic village of Tamworth, NH) is hiring an Interpretive Gardening Intern for the 2021 growing season. This individual will manage our vegetable and floral gardens, as well as other interpretive areas such as the children’s garden and edible landscape. The successful candidate is also responsible for following established garden plans that will provide produce for use in our Staff CSA and/or farm stand sales. By maintaining excellent standards of production and presentation, you will contribute to guests’ enjoyment of this unique museum, as well as our local ecosystem. This is a full-time, seasonal internship position reporting to the Program Manager. The candidate ideally will begin no later than June 1st and remain on-site for the entire summer. There is the option of shoulder season work beginning in early/mid April and/or September into mid-October.

Primary Responsibilities: • Execute an already developed seasonal growing plan to fulfill the exhibit needs of the museum and our Staff CSA. This includes, but is not limited to, managing garden supplies, growing plants in the greenhouse, seed saving practices, and preparing future seed orders. • Maintain vegetable & floral gardens and interpretive landscape areas throughout the Museum’s grounds. This includes, but is not limited to, mowing, weeding, watering, seeding, aerating, and fertilizing various gardens. • Interact with museum visitors, sharing accurate plant/garden information while you work in the gardens. • Harvest, clean, and distribute produce for Staff CSA and/or farm stand sales. • Create informational signage for the gardens, greenhouse, and farm stand sales.

Secondary Responsibilities: Maintaining a safe workspace while following all appropriate Federal and State COVID-19 guidelines. • Support Remick’s mission and customer service philosophy.

Educational Opportunities: The successful candidate will report to our Program Manager and opportunities exist for the development of special projects and/or interpretive exhibits in addition to the daily tasks associated with ths position.

Skills Desired: Knowledge, Experience, and Skills: • Related horticulture education, or 2-3 years’ equivalent experience, in a horticulture/gardening position. This includes, but is not limited to, knowledge of manure/compost and pesticide free pest prevention; ability to identify and appropriately treat a wide range of horticulture pests and diseases; knowledge/ability to use heirloom and open pollinated species of flowers, and vegetables; o familiarity with New England agricultural history/practice and/or a willingness to learn. • Basic computer skills Equipment Operated: • Garden tillers, cultivators, lawn mowers, and other general tools and equipment. Interpersonal Skills: • Reliable, dependable, and punctual. • Self-starter with good initiative and able to work independently. • Possesses effective organizational skills, is attentive to detail and managing multiple deadlines. • Able to communicate skillfully with a wide range of people from different cultural and social backgrounds, varying ages, language skills, and physical abilities. • Flexible, adaptable, and positive. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: • Perform physical activities in a variety of environmental conditions that require moderate to maximum strength including climbing, lifting, balancing, bending, kneeling, walking, and handling of materials weighing up to 50 pounds. • Transport wheelbarrows and carts with bulk materials. • Comfortable working on your feet for long periods of time. Must wear closed-toe shoes at all times. • Operate gardening equipment and tools, including electric or gas-powered tools. • Lift, carry, and place a variety of plants and bushes used in the gardening and maintenance process.

Meals: Intern participants in complimentary staff CSA.

Stipend: $13-15/hour
