Internship information
General Farm Description: Larson Farm and Creamery is a family-run organic dairy farm milking 30 grass-fed A2A2 Jersey cows. We have an on-farm creamery and direct market our raw milk, pasteurized milk, yogurt and butter through our farm store, CSA, through regional stores, and through distributors. We practice intensive rotational tall-grazing of our highly-diverse forage stands and focus on building healthy soils with multi-species forage stands that encourage a strong micro-biome in the soil.CRAFT Member Farm? Internship Details:
We have had a number of successful internship relationships in years past through ATTRA. Our interns are housed in a camper with use of a full bathroom in the milkhouse. The camper has an LP stove, frig, and free-choice dairy products. Our interns are expected to work 5 days a week with 8 – 10 hour days. Work includes milking, setting up pasture rotations, helping in the creamery, barn cleaning, some tractor work spreading manure and harvesting hay, calf care and some handling of horses. For an individual who thinks about dairy farming as a career, an internship at Larson Farm and Creamery is a great place to learn critical skills and learn how to make management and financial decisions.
Educational Opportunities: Yes. We are part of a Land Care Community that works cooperatively to practice regenerative forage production. There may be opportunities to attend seminars at area farms.
