Internship information
General Farm Description: Boundless Farmstead is 15 miles east of Bend in the Badlands of the High Desert. We are surrounded by sagebrush and juniper, and views of the beautiful Cascade Mountains. We are a 20 acre mixed vegetable farm, having 10 acres in vegetables and rotational cover crops, 5 acres in pasture/hay, and 5 acres mixed in orchard, outbuildings, and our home. We are part of a 200 member Collaborative CSA program, sell wholesale to restaurants and grocery stores, and sell at the Downtown Wednesday Farmers Market. We practice sustainability in all facets of life; from building soil to building relationships, from deeply rooting with perennials to deeply rooting in our community, and constantly working towards low waste in our food production, packaging, and home life.CRAFT Member Farm? Full Time – Seasonal – April 7, 2025 to November 8, 2025
We will do rolling interviews as we receive applications, please apply sooner than later.Boundless Farmstead’s mission is to grow and cultivate healthy plants, animals, and community, and to form creative and sustainable practices by observing, listening, and studying. We care deeply about the environment, about our family, about our lasting impacts, about our underserved neighbors, and about our community as a whole. We hope to gather a team of people who are welcoming, open-minded, caring, and willing to put in the work (on the farm, in community, and with self).
Please read through our website and get acquainted with our farm and farm practices.
Description
- 32 to 40 hours a week. Schedule is four 8 to 10 hour days (depending on shoulder season vs peak season). This will be discussed in advance and in more detail during the interview.
- Must be available to work Monday through Thursday
- $17 per hour starting wage (DOE, raises given throughout the season if employee demonstrates proficiency)
- Employees are allowed and encouraged to take home all farm products including vegetables, fruit, eggs, ferments, etc.
- A bonus is typically given to employees who work the entire duration of the season. This is not promised, but is strived for.
Primary Tasks
The primary responsibilities of this crew member will include: harvest and post-harvest duties, weeding, transplanting, potting up, trellising, chicken tending, etc. If the employee desires, there will be the option of rotating with the other employees to work at the Downtown Farmers Market on Wednesdays.
Qualifications
Farming experience is preferred but not required. Please note that farming is physically challenging and requires repeated bending, lifting, and standing. We do require that you are able to take care of your body and physical needs as an individual by dressing properly, hydrating, practicing good ergonomics, taking breaks as needed, and having adequate caloric intake. We also require that you are able to take care of your emotional and mental needs as individuals by communicating with David, Megan and your team, and being honest with your goals and limitations. Once the season begins, we are all in this together!
Other qualifications include:
- Must have three years of full-time work experience. Preferences given to those with experience in agriculture, the service industry, or manual labor industries.
- Ability to commit to the entire growing season with very limited vacation time
- A very strong attention to detail – We pride ourselves on the quality and cleanliness of our produce.
- Reliable transportation to and from the farm
- Ability to safely lift 50lbs over and over
- Ability to be flexible as things change rapidly on the farm due to weather, heat, and other external factors
To Apply
Our main goals at the farm are to produce the highest quality vegetables we can in the most efficient and sustainable manner, and to enjoy life while doing it. We have high expectations for the quality and speed demonstrated by our employees, yet are very cognizant of maintaining the joys of working with the land. This position is for someone with a true love of the local food system, sustainable agriculture, and environmental stewardship. Without these passions, farming may be challenging and tedious. If you enjoy working hard, finding meaning in your work, and striving to have a positive attitude every day, then we invite you to apply!
