General Farm Description: Morning Star Farm is a small family owned farm and homestead on Orcas Island, WA growing organic vegetables, fruit, and flowers. The farm includes 20 acres of forested land, 4 acres of vegetables and flowers, a large pond, a small fruit orchard, and several acres of sloping pasture.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
We are looking for compassionate ,hardworking ,life-loving people to join our farm team on beautiful Orcas Island for 2023.Work on the farm includes seeding, transplanting, cultivating, irrigating, harvesting, preparing produce and flowers for market, CSA, delivering to restaurants, food bank, grocery stores, and selling at the farmer’s market. Work entails physical labor and early mornings, repetitive, and sometimes challenging tasks in all kinds of weather.
Educational Opportunities: Farmhands will gain experience with all aspects of our farm and hopefully leave with an understanding of the skills needed to run a small farm and homestead. Here you will be part of both flower and vegetable production.
Skills Desired: Prior farm experience is preferred. We ask for the desire to work hard, good communication skills, a sense of humor, attention to detail, ability to comfortably lift up to 50 lbs, and a willingness to work with all personalities. Must have valid drivers license, and be comfortable driving for occasional deliveries and to the weekly farmers market.
Meals: No, but we grow a diversity of crops on the farm, and farmhands are welcome to eat as much as they would like from the garden.
Stipend: $800/month
Housing: There are several small cabins available as crew housing on the property. Each is equipped with basic cooking facilities, outdoor shower, and a wood stove. There is a composting toilet nearby. The barn, the heart of the property, dates back to the original homestead, and functions as a communal space with a full kitchen, wood stove, wifi, and a large living area for relaxing and creative projects.
