Internship Details:
Farmer Starter is a 20 week intensive Farmer Training program on a working 10 acre Certified Organic vegetable farm.
Educational Opportunities: "Farmer Starter is unique in the way it pairs hands on learning in the field with classroom education and farm tours. Over the course of 20 weeks you will spend over 200 hours in the field, 200 hours in the classroom and visit 18 different farms or agriculture related businesses. We cover both the production aspects as well as the business and financial skills you will need to be a successful farmer. You will choose a special project and we will help you find the resources you need to delve deeply into a specific topic you are passionate about. "
Skills Desired: "No experience is necessary, but you must have a strong desire to learn how to farm and be ready to work in a challenging environment."
Meals: Students are welcome to produce from the farm. As a group we prepare shared lunches between field time and class time. Farmshare provides staples for these lunches in addition to the produce from the farm.
Stipend: "This is a tuition based educational program which provides students with formal learning in college level courses. Tuition is $3000. We award need based scholarships and offer work-share programs as financial aid. If you are committed to the program, we are committed to finding a way to make it work for you. "
Housing: "Students have the option of living on the farm during the semester for an additional $1,500 for the 20 weeks. We have a small farmhouse with lofted bed rooms, a shared full kitchen and bathroom.
