Internship information
General Farm Description: We are a market farm growing on two acres. Over 1.5 of those acres are managed only with a walk behind tractor and hand tools, meaning we can grow a huge quantity of food proportional to this space. We till as little as possible, and instead harrow (or ‘stir’) the top few inches of soil in most of our field to prepare for crops. This leaves the soil biology intact doesn’t invert the soil profile. We use appropriate technology to grow a lot of food in a small space— we care for our soil and plant in permanent raised beds so we can grow more food in a small space rather than cropping more ground. In 2022 we added a small four-wheel tractor to the family and an experimental tractor cultivated field that allows us for more space and mechanization for long season, heavy and space hogging crops like potatoes and squash. We are using our farm made compost and rotational chicken grazing to care for this soil. This will allow us to feed our community better for a longer season, while preserving the bodies of our crew!CRAFT Member Farm? No
