General Farm Description: Greetings! Rose Hill Farms is offering a 6-month, paid opportunity internship focused on forestry, sustainable forest management, milling, biochar, and basic farm construction. The internship will take place on 750 acres of farm/forest land in the countryside of Roseburg, Oregon. Rose Hill Farms is dedicated to self sustainability, land and forest regeneration, and preservation of the natural ecosystem. Apart from sustainably managing 375 acres of forest, the property also sustains a biodynamic farm including about 300 fruit and nut trees, hens, geese, ducks, highland cattle, babydoll sheep and pigs.

Internship Details:

Over your 6-month internship, you will spend 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 to 5hpm working on different projects:
Wood cutting using different sizes of chainsaws,
Forest brush cleaning,
Sustainable forest management,
Milling using 2 different sawmills Timberking 2000 sawmill and 1 Lucas Mill 6ft slabber,
Biochar,
Fencing,
Basic farm construction,
Concrete
Rock walls,
and other related activities.

Educational Opportunities: Upon successful completion of the internship, there may also be the possibility of transitioning to a second internship or paid position in advanced furniture construction, welding and metalwork, and woodworking technique. We are fully equipped with our own sawmills and a fully functional woodworking shop to process timber from the forest to the finished piece or building.

Skills Desired: We are looking for people who have a deep interest in regenerative and sustainable forestry work. Our main forestry work involves thinning the forest of overcrowded or sick trees to ultimately create healthy old growth fireproof ecosystems, building forest and farm soil through biochar and mulch creation, and sustainable processing of the harvested timber and salvage logs through our sawmill. The ideal candidate is a hard-working, resourceful, flexible, individual that is eager to learn, and works well within a community. Intern should be in good physical condition and be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Stipend: We are looking for people for a 6 months internship with a 2 weeks trial period. Compensation will start after the 2 weeks trial period at $10/hr. (OR min wage of $12.75/hr minus food & housing)

Housing: Food and Lodging are included. Meals are organic and uses mainly produces from the garden and the farm. For lodging, interns have their private space in a RV or a room with access to communal living space within the farm house with full amenities, including a full kitchen, wi-fi, washer/dryer, showers, etc.  Some meals are cooked and eaten together with host and others are self-catered with provided groceries. Please note that drugs and cigarettes are not allowed.
