Our seasonal crew members are an integral part of our farm team during the growing season. Work is divided into two categories, field work and harvest. Fieldwork on the farm includes things like planting, weeding, and crop maintenance. Typically we have one focused day of field work per week, with more of this kind of work at the beginning and end of the season. Harvesting includes picking, conditioning, arranging and packing bouquets, bucket washing, and clean-up at the end of the day. We work fast, use sharp knives, and pick a lot of flowers in a day. We harvest 2-4 days a week depending on the season. We grow over 150 varieties of flowers, so no two weeks are the same.
Our field crew members learn about all aspects of small-scale organic farming. We strive to create a work environment that is fun and rewarding for all of our team members. We hope at the end of the season that our team members walk away with practical farming skills and understand what it takes to raise organically grown flowers in Colorado.
To Apply:
One page cover letter, resume, and two references sent to info@ellensflowers.com no later than March 14th. Part of our interview process includes a working interview here on the farm(if travel allows).
Educational Opportunities: This team member will have to opportunity to learn about specific "behind the scenes" topics according to their interests. Possible education opportunities include crop planning, wedding design and marketing, CSA management, IPM, tractor cultivation and repair, email/social media marketing, bulb forcing, high tunnel and greenhouse maintenance and more. We love to tailor each farm crew member's experience on our farm based on what they are most interested in learning about and have meetings/check-ins based on those interests.
Skills Desired: The ideal candidate should have the ability to work at an effective pace, accept and integrate instructions and feedback, and take a proactive role in asking for guidance when it comes to farm practices. This is a highly demanding position during peak season and requires speed, focus, physical strength, and stamina on long days in any weather conditions. A good candidate for this job should be able to work fast and efficiently both at time-sensitive tasks like harvest and tedious jobs like hand weeding. This job requires a do whatever it takes attitude and a person who can contribute positively to the general work environment. A good candidate for this position must be flexible, pay attention to detail, work well with others, and have the desire to help the business succeed. They should be willing to be in the public eye, positively representing our business. Farming or other outdoor physical work experience, knowledge of plants or floristry, and experience in fast-paced work environments are all appreciated but not necessary. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
