General Farm Description: James Lake Farms is a grower and packer of organic cranberries located in northern Wisconsin. We grow 189 acres of fruit and have been certified organic since 2007. Our berries are sold in both the produce market as fresh fruit and the freezer ingredient market. The harvest season begins in late September and ends the week before Thanksgiving.CRAFT Member Farm? Internship Details:
The internship will be an exposure to all aspects of the harvest process including field operations on both the fresh pick crew and processed fruit crew, packing house operations, quality control, food safety, HACCP, and harvest planning and logistics. The intern will job shadow both the owner (John) and the operations manager (Ben) to gain valuable experience in the details of a cranberry harvest with two harvest crews and two packing houses.
We are seeking candidates willing to work the entire harvest period of September 25- November 16th. A typical work week is Monday thru Saturday 8am to 6 pm. Candidates should be able to stand for extended periods, lift 25 lbs and work in all types of weather conditions.
We offer a stipend of $18 per hour and free housing.
Educational Opportunities: Exposure to machinery such as optical sorters and poly baggers, exposure to a fully implemented food safety plan, exposure to management skills needed to manage a crew of 35 with daily variations in activities.
