Internship Details:
Coveyou Scenic Farm is creating an internship position for the spring and summer of 2022 to allow an individual to experience the dynamics of our on-farm market that sells our organic produce and potted flowers as well as all things local to the community. Our diverse market sells not just produce and our CSA shares but dairy, meat, bread, packaged foods of all types as well as artisan gifts. Interns will see all dynamics of running a busy market from receiving inventory, display set up, marketing and of course customer service. You will be part of our team expanding our grab and go food area of the market. We use a very leading edge POS system to sell our products and manage inventory that you will get experience with. Our online ordering system will also expand your skills in this new arena of expanding farm market sales
Educational Opportunities: Interns will gain first hand knowledge on how to run a successful on-farm produce and flower market that attracts a lot of visitors to our farm during the summer tourist season. Your knowledge of produce will expand but also the skills of working as a team to provide a unique shopping experience for customers. Insights in how we use online ordering to increase market sales will be an additional part of the skills obtained. Sustainability and energy efficiency are a major focus on the farm and we have multiple on-farm conservation components: our geothermal walk-in vegetable cooler, geothermal run produce field heat removal system and market display system, our 20KW PV net metered electrical generation solar array, a geothermal heated seed germination / transplant growing system. Interns will learn about all these systems as well.
Skills Desired: Successful interns are generally people oriented, self-motivated, hardworking, detailed oriented, have a positive disposition, work well with others, think creatively to solve problems and are good at working independently and as a team. Experience working in retail is extremely helpful. This internship is not a classroom learning experience, and the ability to handle multiple tasks, work efficiently and manage time is very important.
Meals: Meals will be cooked on your own but you will be given all the organic vegetables grown on the farm you desire for your meals. Living with other interns on an organic vegetable farm typically results in some wonderful eating opportunities!
Stipend: Lodging is provided in an on-farm furnished house with internet and laundry. Meals will be prepared on your own, with unlimited access to our certified organic produce. A weekly stipend of $225 is also provided with a bonus of $25/week for successful completion of the internship. Interns work five and half days a week, typically 40 hours. We also have a vacation day bonus plan based on the length of your stay. We have additional interns on the farm in our organic produce side of our business making it a nice atmosphere of new friendships.
Housing: Lodging is provided in an on-farm furnished house with internet and laundry. Interns will have their own room in the house that has commons areas shared with other interns.
