General Farm Description: At Heifer USA, we’re working to create a world where the small-scale farmers in our communities can lead a dignified and sustainable livelihood. By strengthening access to markets and building social capital, Heifer USA is creating a brighter future for those who grow our food. Join our team of highly passionate changemakers, committed to cultivating holistic and regenerative solutions to the way we grow and share food. Heifer Ranch, which serves as the headquarters for Heifer USA, is a 1,200-acre agricultural learning center that offers training and support to beginning and experienced farmers alike. Heifer Ranch offers those seeking to grow their experience in sustainable agriculture the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in our work. Volunteers at the Heifer Ranch are provided housing on site and work full time in our organic gardens, tend to our pasture-raised livestock, and our maintenance/facilities team.

Internship Details:

Our volunteers work full-time on our Organic Gardens and Pasture-Raised Livestock. Volunteers work alongside our professional experts, and amongst a community of similarly minded and passionate individuals. Heifer USA believes that our best future will be built upon just and sustainable food systems that care for the workers, animals, and the environment.

Educational Opportunities: Our volunteers work closely alongside our full-time, expert staff members on a daily basis. They are exposed to the ins and outs of all the daily chores and responsibilities of a working organic farm. Volunteers may choose between experiences working alongside our organic market garden team or pasture-raised livestock team. While working alongside the experts in these teams, volunteers gain valuable insights into the day-to-day and seasonal chores and responsibilities required to operate each enterprise. These experiences can help volunteers establish or develop the skillset to start their own farm enterprises.

Skills Desired: We're looking for individuals who are passionate about learning about regenerative agriculture, who have a can-do attitude, work well on diverse teams, and are self-starters.
