General Farm Description: Briceland Forest Farm is a small second generation family farmstead. Our focus is growing and raising a diverse array of food, flowers, herbs, and animals to provide ourselves, our community, and the cannabis marketplace with healthy choices while improving the soil and environment. Through observation of nature, learning from others, and experimentation we work towards improving the quality of our crops and the farm’s self sustaining, ecological, and abundant systems. Briceland Forest Farm is looking for our next BFF! 2024 full season internship position has been filled. please inquire about 1-3 month volunteer farm stays. Our 2024 intern season will begin this March, and we are already excited for our next turn around this cycle.

We are looking for a team member whom is physically fit, motivated, fun, and enthusiastic about working with their strength and discipline to grow food for our local community and help steward this beautiful piece of land in the woods of Southern Humboldt.

For more than 10 seasons we have offered our homestead and regenerative farm internship, and have cherished the experiences and connections that emerge. Each season we have worked with and taught interns of varying levels of experience the skills necessary for the operation of our small market garden, cannabis farm, and off-the-grid family homestead. This experience is ideal for anyone whom is passionate about the impact food production has on our planet and our communities as well as individuals whom want to live in a more connected way surrounded by wilderness. Farming and homesteading are incredibly demanding lifestyles, so please only apply if this kind of physically demanding work is something you enjoy, as we do!

Interest in agriculture, homesteading, community building, and land stewardship. Our nine month internship from March-November will cover nearly all aspects of the operation of a small market garden that supports a local farmers market as well as nearby restaurants. Additionally we operate a small scale legal cannabis farm. As a team farmer you will gain valuable experience from a wide range of farming skill, tasks, and instruction. This position is ideal for someone whom is wanting to transition into a farm or homestead living opportunity. One can learn both the rewards and challenges, while experiencing the joy of being a part of a beautiful and unique community of Southern Humboldt.

Our small farm is operated by our family and 1-3 additional short-term helpers throughout the season. We are looking for someone with a desire to connect and collaborate with our team and family. We have two young children (6 & 8) and an interest and enjoyment of kids is very important.

On our small farm we work with the demands of the season. The hours of labor will change to match with the needs of weather and seasonal temperature fluctuations. During harvest , planting, and some cannabis care hours may be extended.

Position Requirements

• An interest in participating on a hard working team to bring farm fresh produce to our community
• Farming experience a plus but not required
• Self-motivated, organized and detail oriented
• Hardworking and prepared to work in any weather, during seasonal pushes, and in ongoing farm labor
• Lift at least 40 pounds
• Ability to problem solve on the job, understanding the big picture goals and the importance of details
• Excellent work ethic and positive attitude, ability to communicate effectively
• Punctual, reliable transportation to the farm and valid driver’s license a plus but not required
• Commitment to maintain our standard of high quality products while working as efficiently as possible
• Interested in learning about no-till, small-scale, regenerative farming, and community living

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Educational Opportunities: Interns will gain valuable knowledge, hands on experience, and instruction from our farming experience over the last two decades. Interns have access to our library of market garden, permaculture, and homestead resources.

Skills Desired: Farm experience a plus but more important to our team is a candidate with enthusiasm and a strong work ethic.

Meals: We love sharing meals together. At times we share a group lunch, and throughout the week we aim to share at least one dinner.

Stipend: A weekly stipend is provided following a two week trial period. Throughout the season interns can eat from the farm including fruits, vegetables, cheese, and milk.

Housing: Housing is included and consists of a small cabin with an outdoor kitchen and shower with a wood stove.
