General Farm Description: Wild Child Farm is a ~10 acre diversified permaculture farm in North Boulder, CO that produces a whole diet. We began as a homestead in 2019 and grew to put out our first CSA in 2023. We have about 1.5 acres of market vegetables including two high tunnels, a perennial berm and swale system with medicinal herbs and fruit trees, and an expansive pasture where we run and rotate meat and layer chickens, cows, and goats, and keep pigs. We are a for-profit farm, with the goal of using these profits to pay our employees a living wage, to break even, and to re-invest in our farm. Our goal is to steward the land, grow aspiring farmers, and showcase the possibility of an abundant food system that nurtures people as well as the planet. We are teachers, and we are also still learning - we hope you join us for the journey.

Who We Are Searching For

Wild Child Farm is offering the opportunity to apply to our Farm Internship and community for the 2024 Growing Season. We are seeking highly motivated, passion-driven, reliable, compassionate, and curious beginner farmers. Our ideal candidate is a hard-working individual with a good sense of humor and excellent problem-solving abilities. We utilize non-violent communication here at our farm, and seek those with a direct approach to communication and conflict resolution. Our goal is to empower a rising generation of farmers. Therefore, this internship is geared towards those who are pursuing a career in agriculture. Previous farming experience is appreciated, but not required.

We will ask our interns to help us carry out our “Full Diet CSA” — offering produce, meat, eggs, goat dairy, honey, medicinal herb products, and a variety of other farm goods. Our farm includes an orchard with medicinal herbs, pasture with cows, goats, chickens, and pigs, and areas for growing vegetables. Ideal candidates have a passion for permaculture, sustainable agriculture, community health and look to have a positive change in our world while getting their hands dirty

Our Story

Wild Child Farm began as a homestead in 2019. As we connected with our community of inspiring regenerative farms in Boulder County, we recognized that we had the opportunity to serve the land and the people more deeply. We realized that what we truly value is connecting with the inspiring people in our community, maximizing the life in our soil, and cultivating life from the ground up. Our farm strives to implement inclusive practices with folks we work with, and to emulate nature on the land, while leaving the land better than we found it. Wild Child Farm is a not-for-profit operation that aims to address the many issues facing our food system. To us, some of the problems facing our community include; racial inequality, unsustainability, political shortcomings relating to ag, food insecurity, monocropping, pesticide use, and lack of human empowerment on farms.

Wild Child Farm Intends to create a regenerative, diversified approach to agriculture that will help provide people with food that heals the body, the soul, and the land itself. We envision connecting our community to the earth and to each other. Permaculture principles will guide our mission to work with nature to create an abundance we can all feel good about.

Our Intentions

• Create an intentional community with systems that can serve as an example and a living classroom

• Educate folks about permaculture and land conservation through classes and workshops

• Enable students, volunteers, and interns to connect with the land by getting their hands in the dirt

• Improve the health of our land through implementation of permaculture techniques, thereby increasing the land’s ability to hold and retain water

• Create a diverse polyculture ecosystem of perennials, annuals, and bee forage

• Use intensive animal management through thoughtful planning and rotation of diverse livestock, to accomplish the goals of building soil, weed feeding, decreasing human labor, and sequestering carbon

• Donate excess food to those in need

• Offset our carbon footprint, sink carbon into the soil and use water resources sustainably

What You’ll Get

• Dedication to the improvement of your skills, knowledge base, and personal growth aspirations regarding sustainable agriculture. We do this through workshops, hands-on training, and developing a one-on-one growth plan for you.

• All your basic needs are covered:

  • A private room in a Boulder Colorado home (three doors down from the farm) shared with up to three other farm community members

  • Fresh food from the farm (all meals included)

  • Access to farm-made herbal medicines

  • Basic toiletries

  • Community support

Educational Opportunities: As they work and learn, interns can expect to develop an understanding of about all aspects of indoor and outdoor market vegetable farming, basic care for farm animals (goats, broiler chickens, layer chickens, cows, and pigs), rotational grazing systems, and perennial systems. Interns will also learn and practice "non-violent communication" which is applicable to many areas of life from the workplace to interpersonal relationships. We will also host specific workshops on the the topics listed above, as well as others such as beekeeping or composting. Finally, part of the intern's compensation is the Boulder Permaculture Design Course (April-October) valued at $1500.

Skills Desired: We are looking for interns who are interested in a career in sustainable agriculture! No experience necessary, Any experience vegetable farming, working with animals, or permaculture systems is appreciated. We have a lot of fun here, but this is also hard job involving lots of manual labor. We seek people who look forward to getting their hands dirty!

Meals: Meals are provided

Stipend: We do not offer a stipend. Interns are expected to work 25-30 hours per week, with the understanding that in some parts of the season there may be less than 25 hours of work, and sometimes more. If we find that an intern is consistently working over 30 hours per week, that additional labor will be compensated.
