Internship Details:
Are you interested in truly living the homestead dream, while learning about Regenerative Agriculture, pasture management, milking and more? Our internship position offers an opportunity to experience the full depth of running a homestead, a small farm business, and living on a dynamic 40 acre farm.
We raise beef cattle, pastured pigs, goats for dairy, chickens for eggs (and meat when our 8 year old lets us…he is really in love with the birds!) and we have a large orchard and garden. Our goal is to raise organic, artisan quality meat, dairy, fruit and veggies both for our home use, on a small scale commercial level, and as a medium to teach future farmers and future eaters! We are absolutely dedicated to teaching Regenerative Agriculture principles as well as the nitty-gritty daily life of homesteading! We also run 3 week long camps for kiddos in the summer, and have farmstay lodging, and our “Front Porch Country Store.”
We are looking for an energetic farm intern, or family, that is excited about diving into milking goats, rotationally grazing cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs, working in the garden, helping us transform our orchard into a food forest, making cheese and soap, cooking fabulous meals with homegrown organic food (and therefore doing LOTS of dishes), and drinking in what the farm has to offer. We are also planning to build a large greenhouse this summer, so you would have the opportunity to learn carpentry skills (or if you already have them- even more awesome!)
We are in an amazing location- just 30 minutes from Portland, OR, but perched on the cliffs above the Columbia River in the Scenic Gorge. Our interns live in our large farmhouse with us (though please note that we are very open to welcoming an intern or family with a trailer/airstream) and become part of the family. We give preference to interns with a child our son’s age (he will be 9 this summer), and though this listing is for now through the fall, we are also potentially looking for a long term intern through the year.
We do not post specific work hours since farming and homesteading is very dynamic (I mean- are you really going to sleep through your favorite goat giving birth at 2 am?!?!) but we absolutely work to create a balance of “work” and “play.” It is important to us that our interns feel well rested and have time off, but we assume that folks who are applying are wanting to dive into this life and experience it to the fullest!
We are looking for someone as soon as possible that would be here for the whole season. Thanks so much for your interest!
Educational Opportunities: I have farmed and I am an educator, so this entire internship will offer an education in all things farming and homesteading.
Skills Desired: We give preference to applicants who have worked on a farm previously, or have at least had a job that requires physical labor. If you have culinary, carpentry, or teaching experience that is even more awesome.
Meals: Yes, we provide 3 meals a day! We eat the highest quality, organic food, including our own eggs, dairy, meat, and veggies.
Stipend: No. Though we do not provide a stipend, we are housing folks in our gorgeous farmhouse and providing the highest quality organic food, and immense educational opportunities!
Housing: Yes, you will be living in our farmhouse.
