Ecdysis Foundation researchers published results of an empirical study of North American field-cropping systems in Environmental Research: Food Systems. The study of 210 farms using practices ranging from conventional to regenerative demonstrated that “a philosophical shift in regenerative field-crop farmers towards human, social, and environmental health had a cascading, positive, and circular effect on biodiversity, soil carbon storage, and farm resilience.” Specifically, this research revealed that “biodiversity was greater on regenerative farms, including soil microbes, invertebrates, plants, and birds, and this biodiversity was strongly correlated with total carbon storage within fields.”
