Daniel Hoffman has worked with small-scale farmers for over 10 years, and with Latino farmers on California’s Central Coast for the past three years. He is fluent in Spanish and has a MS.c. in Crop and Soil Sciences from Michigan State University, where he studied the effects of plant diversity on microbially mediated soil functions while running a small urban farm in Lansing. At NCAT, Daniel provides technical support to farmers on conservation practices including hedgerows, cover crops, and water management, as well as land evaluation. He also collaborates with farmers on trialing new conservation practices and enjoys learning alongside farmers.

Before joining NCAT Daniel farmed in Michigan, Maine, and Kansas, where he grew up. He spent four years in Senegal and Malawi, where he worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer, an extension agent, and a scientist. In California he enjoys biking, gardening, and jumping in the ocean, which is always cold.
