NCAT Names Alyssa Charney as New Executive Director

The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) Board of Directors has selected Alyssa Charney as the organization’s next Executive Director. A nationally recognized leader in sustainable agriculture and conservation, Charney brings extensive experience leading national initiatives, building effective partnerships, and delivering programs that support farmers, ranchers, and communities.

“Alyssa is an accomplished leader who brings deep experience in sustainable agriculture, technical assistance, and conservation,” said NCAT Board Chairperson Jackie Hutchinson. “Her collaborative approach, ability to build strong partnerships, and commitment to practical solutions make her the right person to lead NCAT and strengthen its impact nationwide.”

Created as a result of the energy crisis of the 1970s, NCAT’s mission to build a more sustainable future is focused today on providing trusted and practical tools for communities, farmers and ranchers, local governments, educators, and other nonprofits working toward sustainable agriculture and renewable energy efforts. Headquartered in Butte, Montana, NCAT has staff around the country who serve all 50 states and the U.S. territories.

I’m grateful to the Board of Directors for their confidence and look forward to working alongside NCAT’s talented staff and partners,” Charney said. “NCAT has a long history of helping farmers, ranchers, and communities tackle real-world challenges with practical solutions, and l am eager to build on that strong foundation in the years ahead.”

Charney brings leadership experience spanning sustainable agriculture, conservation, and public service. She has held senior leadership positions at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the White House, on Capitol Hill, and with national nonprofit organizations, where she has overseen national programs, forged partnerships across government and the nonprofit sector, and expanded support for farmers, ranchers, and rural communities.
