General Farm Description: Sustainable Settings owns the 244-acre historic Thompson Creek Ranch in Carbondale Colorado where we operate our working ranch and Whole Systems Learning Center. This daily and long-term committed effort is to provide the arena and programming where human beings might find a harmonious regenerative intersection with Nature. We work on direct and locally applicable sustainable solutions to climate change, food production and energy security. First and foremost is the regeneration of healthy topsoil – health in all systems – things we believe to be paramount if we are to survive. This effort is intended to move the culture into greater awareness of human being’s responsible participation as humble stewards and reverent members within Nature’s economy.CRAFT Member Farm? No

Internship Details:
Sustainable Settings is a 244-acre working ranch and Whole Systems Learning Center dedicated to applied sustainability. Our residential internship is a full-time, seven-month immersion in Biodynamic and Beyond agriculture, holistic land stewardship, green building, food systems, and community life. Interns participate in the daily rhythms of the ranch: rotational grazing, gardening, milking cows, irrigation, food preservation, educational programming, and hosting visitors.
This is not a classroom experience. It is physical, intellectual, and deeply personal work. Interns live seasonally, rise early, share meals, study from our extensive library, and take responsibility for their own learning. We graduate alert, disciplined, humble Certified Generalists who understand whole systems thinking and the human energy required to produce a morsel of food.
Room and most board are provided. This is a subsidized, unpaid learning opportunity for mature, self-motivated individuals ready to work hard, think deeply, and participate in building an island of health in soil, water, air, and community.
Educational Opportunities: Rotational grazing, dairy operations, market garden, crop production, green building design, hay cutting, flood irrigation, the culinary arts, and more
Skills Desired: No previous experience required
Meals: 1-2 meals a day
Stipend: Not to first year interns
Housing: Yes
Preferred method of Contact: email
