General Farm Description: Barrett's Mill Farm is a certified organic vegetable, fruit and flower farm run by Lise Holdorf and Melissa Maxwell. We are located on 15 acres of town-owned land in Concord, Massachusetts, and we grow crops both in the field and in our four no-till high tunnels. We sell the majority of our produce April - December through our farm stand and our 200-member CSA.CRAFT Member Farm? Yes

Internship Details:
Responsibilities:
● Work with the farm team in the field, greenhouse and high tunnels. Tasks include seeding, transplanting, mulching, hand weeding, hoeing, trellising, irrigation, fencing, harvesting, and farm store set-up.
● Regular independent work may include greenhouse watering, maintenance projects, and working in the wash/pack area.
● Help lead the field crew in tasks like harvesting and weeding.
● Depending on interest, Assistant Growers may be trained to use one of our Farmall 140 cultivating tractors.
● One Assistant Grower will work in the farm stand and CSA distribution 2 days per week. The other Assistant Grower will work mostly in the field, but is also expected to provide some support to the Farm Stand team on Saturdays, including set-up, stocking, washing bins and harvesting as needed.
● Candidates who stay on for a second season will have the opportunity to take on higher responsibility tasks.
Schedule:
● April – Thanksgiving
● Tuesday – Saturday, 7am – 4pm during busiest season (schedule will vary slightly seasonally).
● For the Grower combining field and farm stand work, Wednesday hours will be 10am – 7pm beginning in June.
● Assistant Growers who stay on for multiple seasons will have the possibility of part-time hours in March and December.
Educational Opportunities: Access to farm records, including crop planning and budgeting tools.
Skills Desired: Skills and Qualifications: ● Positive attitude and a strong work ethic. ● Able to meet the physical requirements of the job, including regularly carrying 30-40 lb over uneven terrain. Comfort being on your feet as well as working on your hands and knees for hours at a time is also essential. ● Strong fine motor skills for things like accurate greenhouse seeding and bunching produce. ● Comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather conditions. ● Able to balance speed and efficiency with quality of work. ● Strong communication skills and openness to constructive feedback. ● Punctual ● At least one season of production farming experience is preferred. Some experience working outdoors is required.

Stipend: Compensation and Benefits: ● Pay is $18/hour ● Fifteen-minute morning break is paid, 1 hour lunch break is unpaid. ● Time and a half for hours worked over 40 hrs/week, as well as for time worked on the following holidays: Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day and Indigenous People’s Day. ● Three days of paid sick time. ● One week paid vacation after completing 3 months of employment in good standing. ● Assistant Growers will receive a CSA share, plus extra veggies as available.
