In this video, Texas producers and researchers discuss how maintaining living plants in farmlands, rangelands, and pastures helps harvest atmospheric carbon dioxide and has additional benefits:

• It helps feed the soil for many months of the year with carbon-based root exudates, which are the primary food sources for the soil food web.

• It stimulates microorganisms to build soil aggregates and pore spaces, which improves plant health, water infiltration, and mineral cycles.

• It helps filter out inorganic nutrients and prevents them from reaching bodies of water.

• It helps manage salinity and provide food and habitat for beneficial pollinators and wildlife.
