Internship information
General Farm Description: Bidwell Canyon Farm is a small family farm on 20 acres in a very rural community in Northeast California. We have about 1/2 acre in vegetable production plus fruit trees and pasture used for grazing. We grow diverse crops in covered tunnels and in open fields. Our produce is sold at farmers markets, an online food hub, and at our farmstand. We also host farm stays and farm tours. Our farming practices focus on the health of the soil and the surrounding ecosystem. We love our community and the beautiful nature that surrounds us.

Internship Details:
Educational Opportunities: We love learning right along with you. We are constantly reading and listening to podcasts on farming subjects. We are open to diving into any farming subject of interest to an intern. We are also lucky to have a great network of small farmer friends in our valley. We often get together for educational workshops, potlucks, and walking around each other's farms.

Skills Desired: Previous farm experience is a plus but not required. Farm work is physically demanding and applicants must be in condition to complete manual labor on a daily basis. We really look for a strong work ethic and positive attitude in our crew members. Weather can be challenging in our climate. It is regularly above 90 degrees. We never know what the summer will bring, but the last two summers we have had smokey air due to wildfires. We work in all weather and schedule our work times around it, sometimes starting very early to beat the heat. If you enjoy hard work, please apply!

Meals: We will provide lunches on all workdays. Food prep, cooking, and clean-up will be shared tasks. We also host a farm dinner once a month for the whole farm crew and their families. Interns are also welcome to produce, eggs, and goat milk produced on the farm whenever needed. All other food items will be the responsibility of the intern. A small kitchen is available in the intern living space for preparing meals.

Stipend: We offer a $500 stipend per month for successful interns.

Housing: We provide housing on the farm in an airstream trailer. The sleeping arrangement is two twin beds in a shared space. If two people are interested in applying, it would work best for a couple or two people who are very comfortable with each other. We will not put two strangers together in this living arrangement.
