USDA Announces Appointments to National Organic Standards Board

USDA announced five new members appointed to the National Organic Standards Board for five-year terms extending through January 2031. The new appointees include Farmer Members Scott Sechler Sr. of Pennsylvania and Jerry Matzner of Minnesota. Two new Public Interest/ Consumer Interest Group members are Jed Murray of Texas and Dr. Bradley Heins of Minnesota. In addition, Bryan Buchwald of Oklahoma was appointed to the Organic Certifying Agent seat. Brief biographies of the appointees are available online. The 15-member board assists in developing standards for substances used in organic production and advises the Secretary of Agriculture on aspects of the National Organic Program.
