A project at the University of Missouri’s Center for Regenerative Agriculture is helping five livestock producers beta test and demonstrate virtual fencing technology. The three-year project is designed for producers whose livestock graze cover crops. The project team helped producers put GPS-enabled collars on five herds of cattle and a flock of sheep. The producers have reported on their experiences using the collars and shared details with other livestock producers to encourage adoption of the technology. The project participants report that the virtual fencing helps them save time moving portable fence, and one commented on higher utilization of cover crops thanks to the technology.
