Growing GRASS, an initiative to build supply chains that elevate the byproducts of regenerative cattle and bison, is enrolling producers nationally. Growing GRASS is supported by the USDA Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) initiative and led by the American Sustainable Business Institute / Network and Other Half Processing. The project will help U.S.-based beef and bison producers optimize total returns from their livestock, with a specific focus on regenerative markets, strengthened supply chain partnerships, and optimized valuation/use of byproducts. To be eligible to enroll, producers must raise beef cattle and/or buffalo using prescribed grazing practices as defined by USDA NRCS Conservation Practice 528. Producers can receive $3,000 for completing an enrollment survey and can receive additional payments for qualifying on-farm audits and value-added market certifications, soil sampling and on-farm research for market access, regenerative grazing training, and storytelling.
