Un agricultor estudia la posibilidad de prolongar la temporada de higos en el noreste

With funding support from Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, Pennsylvania grower Craig Boyer explored a new method of extending the growing season for figs with a goal of establishing fig production as a viable enterprise in Northeastern states. By training fig trees to grow horizontally, Boyer made it possible to extend the growing season and protect figs from frost in a low tunnel within a high tunnel. Growing methods used in this project extended the growing season for figs up to two months in the spring and up to one month at the end of the season, allowing fruits to reach local markets two months earlier than usual.
