General Farm Description: Williams Farm is a small scale, urban farm, located in North Athens Georgia. The farm is the site of the Williams Farm Experiential Education Programs, including, the Young Urban Farmers, and the Incubator Program.

Internship Details:

The Williams Farm Farmer Training and Incubator Program is a two-year apprentice program that provides access to land, training and resources to beginning farmers who are categorized as Socially Disadvantaged by the USDA. The goal of the program is to help these farmers hone their skills and develop independent sustainable farm businesses.

The first year, incubator farmers will grow under the guidance of the Williams Farm Manager. Produce grown will be distributed weekly to Clarke County families through our free farmshare program at least 30 weeks out of the year, to the West Broad Farmers Market from April to November, and to wholesale partners year round. Farmer incubators are expected to commit to 12 hours of farm work each week for a 40-week season, and will be paid a stipend for their time and participation.

In the second year, incubator farmers will work with Land Trust staff and partner organizations to identify consistent sales outlets for their produce, including farmers markets, restaurants, and grocery stores. Second year incubators will have more flexibility in deciding which crops to produce, but sales are not guaranteed.

Educational Opportunities: Near monthly free workshops available on the farm outside of the educational programming of the Williams Farm Incubator Program. Each incubator is offered additional one on one technical assistance for their farm enterprises.

Skills Desired: Some farm, food, or business experience preferred. Willingness to learn a requirement.

Meals: Not in a formal sense, but meals are often shared on the farm. There is also an abundance of produce that is shared.

Stipend: In their first year, incubator farmers are guaranteed a $1000 over the course of the season and have the opportunity to earn another $1000 through completing educational goals. Incubator Farmers also have the opportunity to participate in profit sharing in their first year. In their second year, incubator farmers have free reign of their space, and keep 100% of their sales.
