General Farm Description: Trust Land Farm is a mixed vegetable and flower farm located in Missoula, Montana. We are located just a few miles from downtown Missoula and accessible by bike or bus. The 8-acre farm site that is Trust Land Farm’s main field is the first community land trust (CLT) farm in the state of Montana. The CLT farm site is owned by Trust Montana, a nonprofit that works to decommodify land so that it is more accessible to farmers and permanently remains in agriculture. Trust Land Farm has a long-term lease on the site and is in its third season of operations. We grow with organic practices and soil health is always top of mind. Our farm mission is to have fun, grow community, and care for our planet through wholesome foods with a commitment to quality, kindness, and environmental integrity. Our farm grows 5ish acres of vegetables and flowers using a Kubota riding tractor and a BCS walk behind tractor. We grow a big variety of veggies for our busy farm stand, weekly produce boxes, and offer wholesale produce that we deliver to local restaurants and caterers. Some of our main crops include cut salad greens, large leaf greens, tomatoes, garlic, peppers, strawberries, and herbs, among many more!

Full-time farm hands will assist with all aspects of the farm operations including: field and crop planning and management; greenhouse management; irrigation; farmstand management; customer service for clients and the general public; produce harvest, washing, packing, and delivery; infrastructure building and maintenance; and any other farm task as necessary. Full-time positions will have the opportunity for some tractor work on both the Kubota four-wheel tractor and our BCS walk-behind tractor. Part-time positions will primarily focus on harvest, farm stand management, and field cultivation. Part-time positions will support all aspects of farm operations as described above.

Full-time positions available starting March or April and ending in October, depending on the season. $16-20/hour DOE.

Part-time position available starting April or May and ending in October, depending on the season. $14-18/hour DOE.

Full-time positions will work 40-45 hours/week with weekend availability required, hours may change depending on the season. Typical work week is 4 x 10 hour days and 3 days off/week. Our end times may flex depending on what we need to accomplish. Start time depends on weather and daylight, so we get earlier as we move into high summer. The season is short, so if you have a lot of vacation planned for 2026, this is not the job for you. Our crew works hard to support each other getting days off and full-time crew receive 30 hours of PTO after 3 months of work.

Part time positions will work 8-25 hours/week with regular weekend availability required. Most part-time shifts are during morning and afternoon hours. We are looking for one position to close the farm stand 2 days/week (shifts likely from 4:30-8:30). Must have open availability on at least one day of Monday, Tuesday, or Friday to be considered for a part-time position.

Weekend work is important at our farm because we have an on-farm stand that is busiest on Saturday and Sunday. In this third season of Trust Land Farm, the schedule may require some additional flexibility from full-time and part-time employees alike. We hope to find the best fit shifts and labor to match weekly work needs, which typically comes from trial and error.

Our shifts start as early as 6am in the heat of the season and end as late as 8:30pm (if you’re closing down the farm stand on a summer day). We schedule shifts that range between 4 and 10 hours. We can often work around child-care pick up needs or other unusual scheduling requirements.

We expect our farm crew to work hard and also to take care of their personal needs. We take informal breaks and lunch as the demands of the day or our bodies require it. The crew is responsible for their own meals. We’ll share a monthly meal with farm produce.

Educational Opportunities: Our crew is the heart of the farm operation. We look to increase skills in crew members at every level and provide evaluations of individuals mid-season to make sure we are reaching those skills goals. We offer no formalized educational opportunities, but do on the job training. We also encourage participation in continuing education off-farm with events and education hosted by the Western Ag Research Center and Farm Connect Montana.

Skills Desired: Farm experience or manual labor experience preferred. Full-time farm hands ideally have 1-2 years of experience on farms. We are a fast-paced farm and expect new and experienced farmers alike to be moving with intention and diligence. A hard worker who can work in all weather conditions - we experience snow, wind, rain, heat and smoke during our season. Our main field has dry covered spaces, but no indoor space. A clear communicator who is willing to share their ideas and also comfortable with following instruction. Our work is diverse, especially over the long season, but some tasks can get monotonous and repetitive. A strong worth ethic is a must and personal motivation that will help you push through a task till it is done is the key to success on our team. We work together and individually. The right fit person needs to be comfortable asking clarifying questions to understand a task and be ready to problem solve if a challenge presents itself. In our third season, we are still figuring out what growing practices, sales outlets, and crops fit for our farm. You will find yourself at times learning along with us as we figure out the best systems for our farm or try out new farming practices. Mixed vegetable farming at a small-scale is physically intensive and we are less-mechanized than some farm operations. Applicants need to be able to lift 50lbs. We spend a lot time kneeling, bending, and working low to the ground as well as standing work in our wash and pack shed or greenhouse.

Meals: Crew is responsible for their own meals. We provide unlimited farm seconds and some farm firsts, depending on availability.

Stipend: Hourly wages paid $14-20 DOE.

Housing: No housing is available.
