General Farm Description: Sun Moon Farm is a diverse and intentionally small farm that is committed to good stewardship of the land, the value of relationships, and sharing the joy of our work with others. Our primary focus is helping to build a resilient community by growing and sharing a diverse mix of vegetables for our 20 week CSA. We also bake bread, cultivate heirloom flowers, and have many other interests both agricultural and beyond. We are not organically certified, but follow ‘beyond organic’ chemical-free practices. Our farm is a founding partner of a small intentional community called The South of Monadnock Community -- we share this beautiful land with a working animal farm and five other families.

Internship Details:

We are looking for 3 interns to live and work with us for the 2023 season. Sun Moon Farm grows food all year round and for the past 10+ years we’ve welcomed three or four interns to share the primary growing season with us with a few interns staying on for the winter and then the following season . Megan and Craig are educators as well as farmers so teaching new growers, and food consumers, while sharing ‘the good life’ is an important aspect of our calling to small scale agriculture.

Sun Moon Farm is located in Rindge, New Hampshire — a small New England town, just a few miles from Mt. Monadnock, and only an hour and half from Boston/Cambridge. We are part of the South of Monadnock Community, an intentional neighborhood that includes 5 families and two working farms (our neighbors run Mountain Foot Farm, a small organic animal operation). Our property includes woods and fields that are a good place to explore, we abut a “rails-to-trails” path that allows easy biking to nearby towns, and there are many plays to swim, kayak or canoe in the many ponds and lakes in the area (and many new friends to share the season with). We are nourished by, and committed to, living in community, so a person who is ready to participate in weekly potlucks, board game nights, house meetings, etc, would be best suited to join us and enjoy their experience here. We also have an 8 year old son that is the most important thing that we plan to grow here.

As Quakers, we live by core testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship. No one is obligated to share our religious views, but we do expect applicants to share or be willing to live respectfully by those values.

Farm interns live on the farm and work closely with the farmers. No previous farming experience is necessary but interns do need an ability to adapt and a willingness to work hard, outdoors, and in all conditions. Farm interns will join us in weeding, planting, and harvesting but will also help to staff our CSA pickups and spend time getting to know our customers. 

This summer we will also be raising a small timber frame structure which will allow a unique experience for this year’s farm crew.

Educational Opportunities: Sun Moon Farm has worked with a few colleges and universities to help make an internship here eligible for course credit.

Skills Desired: No. Neither Craig or Megan had a background in agriculture before their first farm internships. We believe that this can be a transformative opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about farming or just wants to be a better informed food consumer.

Meals: The farm crew eats lunch together from Monday through Friday, everyone is welcome to join our community potluck dinner on Thursday nights, and there is often a lot of informal meal sharing beyond that. The farm provides a few staple foods for shared meals and vegetables from our gardens.

Stipend: Yes. All interns are paid for their work here at Sun Moon Farm.

Housing: Yes. Farm interns live with us in the "Aurora House." Interns have their own bedroom, share a bathroom between them, and have use of a commercial kitchen space which is also used by the farm.
